In 2002, my friend Robert (from Tucson, a place I had just left) asked me to write a soundtrack for his next independent film. He had done a self-financed full-length feature a few years prior, and this new film was the sequel. The story revolved around a skinhead (Wally) and the Dalmation he loves. Robert’s vision was a soundtrack of ska and punk.

At the time, I really didn’t have much in the way of recording equipment; just my old gumdrop iMac and a cheap microphone. I spent the minimal budget on a sound card and trombone, and I was off to write, perform, and engineer an entire album in the span of two months. It was a challenge, and clearly there were deficiencies in the ultimate recording and performance.

So in 2017 it made sense to revisit the project as a sort of 15-year anniversary. A basic remix and remaster wouldn’t really help, so I spent a year rebuilding drum tracks from nothing, matching each individual hit to existing music. It was arduous, and I missed the 15-year deadline. Yet, here it is. And I am ecstatic to have made these songs even a bit more listenable.
